Nutraceuticals and Women’s Health

Nutraceuticals and women's health were the focus of interest at this year's seventh international Annual Conference of the European Nutraceutical Association (ENA). ENA President, Dr Peter Prock, was able to welcome over 200 experts from 13 European countries, several African countries, and from the US to the event in Munich in March. The participants included experts from the fields of medicine, pharmacy, nutrition science and the healthcare professions.
Four "hot topics" from the broad scientific field of women's health were presented during the core presentations: skin health, iron deficiency in women of childbearing age, pregnancy and lactation, as well as menopausal symptoms. Numerous poster presentations expanded the spectrum of topics; the choice for the annual poster award was narrowed down to three selected posters. Based on a very wide range of topics, the studies and results showed the modulating effect of nutraceuticals on the central metabolic pathways. The papers have been published in the current issue of  Annals of Nutrition & Metabolism 2011; 58:49-58.
